Virginia stays put at No. 4 in latest AP Poll

No movement in the top four as the Hoos hold steady.

NCAA Basketball: Florida State at Virginia Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Despite a decisive victory over a (then) top-10 Florida State team, the Virginia Cavaliers stayed steady at No. 4 in this week’s AP Poll. Duke, Michigan, Tennessee and Virginia came in 1-4 for the third straight week. Gonzaga jumped up to take over the No. 5 spot from Kansas, which lost to Iowa State, 77-60.

The Hoos did get five first place votes, and our own Danny Neckel found this tidbit:

Michigan State, Kansas, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, and Nevada round out the top 10.

Virginia (13-0) is one of three teams—along with 15-0 Michigan and 15-0 Houston—that are unbeaten on the season. Nevada was the latest team to pick up their first loss as they fell on the road to KenPom 184 New Mexico, 85-58.

The ACC has a poll-best six teams ranked as Duke (No. 1), Virginia Tech (No. 9), UNC (No. 12), FSU (No. 13), and NC State (No. 15) all join UVA in the rankings this week. In the next seven games, Virginia has to face VT, travel to Duke, and play at NC State.

The Pac-12 had no teams represented in the poll for the second straight week, and the Big Ten and SEC each had five teams ranked.
