Virginia up two spots to No. 5 in AP Poll

Hoos face No. 7 UNC on Sunday.

The Virginia Cavaliers (7-0, 1-0 ACC) keep moving on up, coming in at No. 5 in this week’s edition of the AP Poll. Virginia is one of five ACC teams in the rankings this week, with Louisville leading the way as the new No. 1 team. The Cards moved up from No. 2 after Duke lost to Stephen F. Austin last week. The Blue Devils fell to No. 10, behind Louisville, Virginia, and No. 7 North Carolina. Florida State joined the party at No. 17.

Virginia will face Purdue — which received votes this week — in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday, then host the No. 7 Tar Heels on Sunday. The Hoos will be without Braxton Key for the foreseeable future as the fourth year had to get surgery for a wrist injury sustained against Arizona State.

No. 2 Kansas, No. 3 Maryland, and No. 4 Michigan (which was unranked until this week) round out the top five, with No. 6 Ohio State, No. 8 Kentucky, and No. 9 Gonzaga filling out the top 10.
