At points in the second half Navy got too close for missiles. The Virginia Cavaliers had to switch to guns.
The Hoos pulled the sails and started to get out and run.
With 9+ minutes left in the second half the Midshipmen lead 41-40 before UVa got back into the defense, forced turnovers, and went on a 12-0 run to all but put the game out of reach.
Though the first ten minutes of the second half was infuriating for UVa due to turnovers leading to Navy buckets, much of the game was controlled by UVa.
A welcome sight was the three point shooting which was lightyears better than it has been thus far this season with the Hoos shooting 42% from beyond the arc. Tomas Woldentensae and Casey Morsell both has two three pointers on the night and Kihei Clark added two of his own.
The best news of the day was Braxton Key getting back into the starting lineup with less of a cast than he has featured over the last few weeks. Key backed that up with 15 points and 7 rebounds.
This was the Hoos’ final out of conference game before the real ACC play begins next Saturday when Virginia Tech comes to Charlottesville.
