3. Strip-Sack Touchdown Seals Commonwealth Clash Win
When Brian Delaney made a 48-yard field goal to give Virginia its first lead since early in the third quarter, we all confronted the impossible. Maybe the streak could come to an end.
Of course, it was important not to be too naïve. No, not after what happened last year (or in the countless opportunities beforehand).
But, with Virginia Tech looking to spoil things yet again on their last meaningful drive, it became a harder feeling to ignore; the UVA defensive line took control.
After back-to-back sacks from Zane Zandier and Matt Gahm pushed the Hokies into a 3rd & 21 from their own seven, the Hoos could taste it. Then, when the pocket collapsed for a third consecutive play, Mandy Alonso and Eli Hanback - two of Virginia’s most consistent defensive players - combined to make a historic play.
Pandemonium ensued.

Now leading 39-30 with just 1:01 remaining, the streak, for all intents and purposes, was as good as done. After fifteen long, arduous years, we could all breathe a collective sigh of relief. The Commonwealth Cup was back in Charlottesville:
