Virginia falls one spot to No. 4 in latest AP Poll

Hoos make an expectedly small drop in the latest poll after losing to Duke.

NCAA Basketball: Duke at Virginia Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Not a huge surprise this Monday afternoon as the Virginia Cavaliers fall one spot to No. 4 after dropping Saturday’s marquee matchup against Duke in Charlottesville. Tennessee held on to the top spot with Duke nipping on their heels. The Gonzaga Bulldogs moved up to No. 3 in Virginia’s place, and Kentucky rounds out the top five.

Virginia has no time to rest as they take on No. 8 North Carolina tonight in Chapel Hill. The ACC and Big Ten have six ranked teams apiece this week, with No. 16 Louisville, No. 17 Florida State, and No. 22 Virginia Tech all staying ranked this week. The Hoos still have to make a return trip to Virginia Tech and play Louisville twice.

Duke doubled its first place vote count, getting 24 votes this week to Tennessee’s 40.
