Looking at the future of Tony Bennett’s team, women’s basketball falls to North Carolina

NCAA Basketball: Virginia Tech at Virginia Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Virginia Cavaliers men’s basketball team improved to 22-2 (10-2 ACC) on the season on Saturday, as they survived a pesky Notre Dame team at John Paul Jones Arena, 60-54. On the NBA front, Joe Harris, to the surprise of many (but certainly not us), captured the three-point shooting contest title at the NBA All-Star Weekend in Charlotte.

Cole Zwicker of The Stepien goes in depth on redshirt sophomore guard De’Andre Hunter’s NBA potential, naming him “one of the more contested prospects in the draft.”

Virginia basketball fans get look at future frontcourt (Daily Progress)

In what has been a relatively rare move this season, UVa Head Coach Tony Bennett decided to play forwards Mamadi Diakite and Jay Huff on the floor at the same time during the first half of Saturday’s win over the Fighting Irish. Might this be, asks The Daily Progress’ Ron Counts, a preview of next year’s frontcourt?

After rattling off two wins in a row in the ACC, Virginia women’s basketball (10-15, 4-8 ACC) fell to North Carolina on the road yesterday, 70-53. Junior guard Jocelyn Willoughby led the Hoos with 16 points in the losing effort.
