Day 3 of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte saw the Virginia Cavaliers open postseason play with a 76-56 comeback win over the NC State Wolfpack in the quarterfinals. The Hoos gained a slight measure of redemption in their first game at the Spectrum Center since last year’s stunning loss to UMBC in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The goal was to “press on”, and press on they did, scoring 49 points in the second half to advance to the conference semis for the fifth time in six years. Our Caroline Darney was there and wrote about Jack Salt’s career-high 18-point performance that propelled Virginia to a 7 p.m. meeting tonight with the Florida State Seminoles.
Not to be outdone, Kyle Guy went unconscious from beyond the arc, shooting 7-9 for most of his 29 points to lead all scorers.
Salt’s mother was in attendance on Thursday, sitting in the first row behind the UVA bench.
TOTD:
Virginia alum Isaiah Wilkins was proud to see his former teammate put on that kind of show.
