Reports are surfacing Monday afternoon from 247 and others on twitter that the Virginia Cavaliers’ rising third year guard Marco Anthony will enter the NCAA’s transfer portal and seek other opportunities outside Charlottesville.

After playing in 13 games his first year at UVa and amassing 26 points, Anthony saw his role increase marginally his second year playing in 22 games while also scoring 26 points in the 2018-19 season.

A three star guard in high school, Anthony came to Virginia from San Antonio, and was also recruited by Iowa State, Mercer, and UTEP, among others.

Anthony is the first two enter the transfer portal from the Hoos’ Championship team, but the other losses of Ty Jerome, DeAndre Hunter, Jack Salt, Kyle Guy, and Mamadi Diakite mean there are now quite a few empty scholarships for Tony Bennett to play with with only three incoming freshmen on the books.

Many will speculate that this could open the door to Sam Hauser and Joey Hauser of Marquette to transfer in since there are now enough spots available.

It will be interesting to see where Anthony lands after Charlottesville. Many other Virginia transfers like Marial Shayock, Paul Jesperson, and Jarred Reuter have gone on to success at other programs and Anthony should be able to do the same.

After hitting publish, Marco confirmed the rumors and tweeted out his intentions to enter his name in the transfer portal.
