There hasn’t been any word yet on whether or not Mamadi Diakite received an invite to the combine. If he hasn’t, the likelihood of him returning to school increases dramatically as no underclassmen that weren’t invited to the combine were drafted in 2018. Obviously, it’s not a guarantee, but an invite to the combine is a good indicator of where you stand.
The other thing to consider with Diakite in particular is the potential for a G League Elite Camp invite, which is new this year. The event allows 40 players not invited to the combine to participate in a showcase-like set-up. With the eligibility rules as they stand now, Diakite would have until May 29 to pull his name out of the draft and return to Virginia.
The 2019 NBA Combine takes place Wednesday, May 15 through Sunday, May 19 and will be held in Chicago.
In NBA Draft Net’s latest mock draft, all three of Hunter, Jerome, and Guy are slated to hear their names called during the draft on June 20. They have Hunter going fifth overall to the Atlanta Hawks, Jerome closing out the first round at No. 30 to the Milwaukee Bucks, and Guy going in the second round at No. 57 overall to New Orleans.
