It’s 2019 NBA Draft Week, and the festivities are in full effect. Tuesday night, Virginia star De’Andre Hunter appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, participating in a game called the Random Object Shootout - NBA Draft Edition.
Hunter was joined by fellow future draftees in North Carolina’s Coby White, Vanderbilt’s Darius Garland, Duke’s RJ Barrett, Texas’s Jaxson Hayes. Garland and Barrett joined Fallon’s team, while Hayes and White teamed up with Hunter.
The participants had to take turns throwing random objects through a basketball hoop. Those items? A Fudgie the Whale ice cream cake, a basketball shoe full of nachos, a mannequin with a New York Knicks hat on, and a water balloon full of Gatorade.
Neither team made a shot until Barrett got the mannequin head to go with an underhand toss. That put the pressure on Dre’s squad, and the reigning champ had a chance to get the water balloon full of Gatorade through and force Fallon’s team to make a shot. Hunter — who the rest of the guys called “Champ” — got a great look at it, but the balloon went halfway in before seemingly breaking all laws of physics and coming back out.
But, after the spring Virginia fans had...we’ll take it.
If I had to pick a single shot of his to rim out in 2019, that was the one I would have picked.
