It’s the offseason for basketball, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on. Former Virginia star Joe Harris will be joining the USA Select Team to train alongside USA Basketball’s National Team for World Cup training camp next month. Per the Brooklyn Nets’ release, “The Select Team will train daily with the National Team in Las Vegas from Aug. 5-8, followed by participation in the USA Blue vs. USA White exhibition game to be played Friday, Aug. 9 at T-Mobile Arena.”

Harris is one of 12 players on the Select Team, joining teammate Jarrett Allen, Marvin Bagley and D’Aaron Fox of the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix’s Mikal Bridges, John Collins and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks, Pat Connoughton of the Milwaukee Bucks, Jonathan Isaac of the Orlando Magic, Mitchell Robinson of the New York Knicks, Derrick White of the San Antonio Spurs, and Landry Shamet of the LA Clippers.

The ACC is well represented on the Select Team as Bagley (Duke), Collins (Wake Forest), Connoughton (Notre Dame), and Isaac (Florida State) all played in the conference.

This selection comes after Harris’s best NBA season where he shot a league-leading 47.3% from three (50% from the field) and averaged 13.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He also took home the NBA Three-Point Contest title this season, defeating Steph Curry.

Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball Chairman and National Team Managing Director, said this of the Select Team:

“The purpose of the Select Team is to help prepare our National Team for the World Cup and to offer an opportunity for some younger NBA standouts to be involved in the USA Basketball National Team program. These 12 players help extend the legacy of elite players who have been part of the USA Basketball Select teams. Not only will this group help prepare the United States for the FIBA World Cup, but it will also provide them with valuable experience at the USA Basketball National Team level.”

In other Virginia Basketball news, big man Jack Salt has found a landing spot to continue his playing career:
