Soccer Programs Shining, Several Hoos Earn Hall of Fame Nomination

Thomas Jones #6

In what will go down as a classic at Scott Stadium, Virginia football fought their way past the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday evening, 31-24, to maintain a perfect record. Following the win, UVA moved up to No. 21 in the AP Poll and landed 4-star defensive end Brandon Williams, who was in Charlottesville this past weekend for his official visit.

Sixth-ranked men’s soccer moved to 4-0-0 on Friday night, when they knocked off Duke on the road, 3-1. With the win, the Hoos now own victories over teams ranked first (Maryland) and second (Duke) in the nation at the time of their contests.

It seems Virginia’s soccer programs are doing alright.

Just ask junior midfielder Sydney Zandi, whose game-winner in the late stages of the second half propelled the No. 4 women’s team over eighth-ranked Penn State, 2-1, on Sunday. UVA now stands at 8-0-0 on the season.

Of the 122 Pro Football Hall of Fame Modern-Era nominees announced last week, four are UVA alumni. Congrats to Tiki and Ronde Barber, Thomas Jones, and James Farrior on the distinction!
