Wins across the board, Juan Thornhill nears regular season opener

The Cavaliers football team kicked off the 2019 season with a huge win over the weekend, besting the Pittsburgh Panthers at their place, 30-14, for the first time in program history. Next up for the team will be a home tilt against William & Mary this coming Friday.

Joe Harris tallied nine points, four rebounds, and one assist in Team USA’s group stage 88-67 win over the Czech Republic. Harris and the rest of the national team will return to action this Tuesday for their matchup with Turkey.

No. 11 Virginia topped ninth-ranked Penn State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon to move to 2-0 on the season. Junior midfielder Rachel Robinson provided the game-winning goal late in the fourth period with a shot from the top of the circle.

UVA women’s soccer (4-0) also maintained their perfect record yesterday, picking up a win over No. 12 West Virginia, 4-1. Freshman sensation Diana Ordonez, who leads the team with eight goals through four games, netted two shots for the second consecutive contest.

Former Cavalier and recent second round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs Juan Thornhill opened up about the respect he has for teammate Tyrann Mathieu’s game. Thornhill will play in his first NFL regular season game next Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
