Streaking the Lawn’s Week 4 ACC Football Power Rankings

We’re finally getting into the meat of ACC play. Yes, the Hoos don’t play an ACC opponent this week, but nearly the rest of the conference does. That probably doesn’t mean a whole lot because it’s a smelly dumpster fire, but it’s OUR smelly dumpster fire.

And Clemson is still ruining football.

Here’s the rankings:

1. Clemson Tigers (4-0, 2-0). Last week: 1
Last game: win 52-10 vs. Charlotte. This week: at UNC

They’ll probably win all their games until the playoff by an average of 30, so whatever. We can only hope for a miracle somewhere.

2. Virginia Cavaliers (4-0, 1-0). Last week: 2
Last game: win 28-17 vs. ODU. This week: at Notre Dame

The first half was ugly. The second half was not. We’ll see how the Hoos compare to a top program in the country as we all know deep down in our hearts we expect a blowout.

3. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-0, 0-0). Last week: 3
Last game: win 49-7 vs. Elon. This week: at BC

Wake is currently 4-0 and sitting at No. 3 in virtually any ACC rankings you’ll read. 2019 is wild. They could be 9-0 heading into a game against Clemson in November or they could be 4-5. Nobody knows. Neither would be all that surprising at this point.

4. Pittsburgh Panthers (2-2, 0-1). Last week: 8
Last game: win 17-10 vs. UCF. This week: vs. Delaware

Panthers were a miracle play away from being 1-3 and likely not in the top 10 this week. Instead, we bumped them up to 4th. We’re a fickle bunch.

5. Miami-Florida Hurricanes (2-2, 0-1). Last week: 4
Last game: win 17-12 vs. Central Michigan. This week: BYE

Canes get a bye week to get right after struggling against the Chippewas, which of course we expected. VT, UVa, GT, and Pitt in the following four weeks means the ACC Coastal will likely be decided by the end of October.

6. Duke Blue Devils (2-1, 0-0). Last week: 6
Last game: BYE last week. This week: at VT.

The Blue Devils feasted on NC A&T and Middle Tennessee State over the last two games after getting bone smoked by the death maching of Alabama on the opening weekend. Like so many other teams in the ACC, nobody knows just how good this team is.

7. Florida State Seminoles (2-2, 1-1). Last week: 9
Last game: win 35-24 vs. Louisville. This week: vs. NC State

After jumping out to a 21-0 lead the Seminoles allowed the Cardinals to score the next TWENTY FOUR POINTS to allow them back in the game. At some point the Noles are going to have to stomp a team for anyone to believe in them. TWENTY FOUR POINTS!

8. N.C. State Wolfpack (3-1, 0-0). Last week: 7
Last game: win 34-23 vs. Ball State. This week: at FSU

No matter what, this Wolfpack team will be the team that lost to West Virginia. A bad West Virginia team. They win that game and the ACC likely has 3 ranked teams and we can at least envision a team staying within 25 points of Clemson. But they didn’t, so now we just expect an ugly slap fight between NC State and FSU this weekend.

9. North Carolina Tar Heels (2-2, 1-0). Last week: 5
Last game: loss 34-31 vs. App State. This week: vs. Clemson

From 2-0 to 2-3 heading into next weekend against Georgia Tech. Give credit to Mack Brown for being enough of a wizard to pull of those first two victories. Heels are likely going to have one more win they probably shouldn’t (vs. UVa 11/2) and lose a game they shouldn’t (GT?).

10. Syracuse Orange (2-2, 0-1). Last week: 10
Last game: win 52-33 vs. Western Michigan. This week: vs. Holy Cross

A warm up game against the Crossaders will be good for the Orange before they get into their ACC slate in two weeks. They likely won’t play a ranked opponent the rest of the season so if Dino can right the ship a decent bowl is still open for Cuse.

11. Boston College Eagles (3-1, 1-0). Last week: 12
Last game: win 30-16 vs. Rutgers. This week: vs. Wake

After laying the eggs of all eggs against Kansas, it was good to see BC get back on the wagon against Rutgers. Big opportunity this week for Steve Addazio’s team as they could regain that respect they lost two weeks ago with a win over Wake Forest on Saturday.

12. Virginia Tech Hokies (2-1, 0-1). Last week: 13
Last game: BYE last week. This week: vs. Duke

The Hokies haven’t looked good yet and hired Jerry Kill to hopefully help fix things. Duke and Miami next week will either show us Virginia Tech isn’t as bad as we think or will get Fuente fired.

13. Louisville Cardinals (2-2, 0-1). Last week: 11
Last game: loss 35-24 at FSU. This week: BYE

TWENTY FOUR STRAIGHT POINTS! Still amazed FSU can do that week in and week out. The Cardinals will get a bye this week and play BC next week before starting the ACC’s murderer’s row of Wake, Clemson, UVa, Miami, and NC State in five straight weeks. Could be a rough October and November in Louisville.

14. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (1-2, 0-1). Last week: 14
Last game: BYE last week. This week: at Temple.

Still lost to The Citadel.
