Due to COVID postponements, we only have four games on this ACC Saturday. Still enough to get the betting juices flowing.
This is probably a bad move, but I’ve got to be consistent, right? This season, I have two rules I’m determined not to go against. Bet Clemson and fade Florida State. So, here we are. Do my two rules cancel each other out? We’ll see.
Pick: Clemson -35.5
What happens when the unstoppable force meets the unmovable object? We’re about to find out when the Pitt Panthers host the VaTech Hokies. VaTech leads the ACC rushing for an insane 262 yards per game while the Panthers only give up only 86 per game. It’s been a fairly simple formula for the Hokies. Rush for more than 260, win. Rush for 260 or less, lose. That was especially evident in their 25-24 loss to Miami as the Hokies only managed 160 yards on the ground. Pittsburgh has been nothing to write home about, but I think the defense does just enough to stifle the Hokies and lose by a field goal or less.
Pick: Pittsburgh +3
Abilene Christian Wildcats @ Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia -39.5; Over/Under 61.5
If you haven’t already, make sure you go over and check out Paul Guttman’s BIG PREVIEW of this game. In it he highlights the size discrepancy between Virginia’s offensive and Abilene Christian’s defense personnel. The contrast is stark and it’s one of those games where I love for the Power Five team to use its physical advantages and just dominate their smaller competition. If Brennan Armstrong attempts more than 15 passes, I’ll be shocked. Wayne Taulapapa, Shane Simpson, and Ronnie Walker Jr. should have a field day running all over the Wildcats. Virginia will win going away, but am afraid they might not have enough minutes to be able to cover the number. Expect the Hoos to run the ball, get up early, and take the foot off the gas heading into the home stretch healthy.
Pick: Under 61.5
Liberty Flames @ N.C. State Wolfpack
N.C. State -3.5; Over/Under 66.5
Liberty can’t go 3-0 against the ACC can they? Well after beating the Hokies in Blacksburg, I’d be inclined to say sure. But the Wolfpack will be ready for the Flames. N.C. State is explosive enough to put up points, and their defense is just good enough to get stops. However, if the Flames can pull out another one, just go ahead and let them play Notre Dame in Charlotte, right?
Pick: N.C. State -3.5
