The Hoophall announced on Wednesday their 2021 Preseason Watch List for the Julius Erving Award, handed out to the top Small Forward in the country. Marquette transfer and redshirt Senior Sam Hauser was one of the 20 players to be named to the list.
Most will recognize the Erving award named after the great Julius Erving, who averaged 26.3 points and 20.2 rebounds per game while at UMass.
Though he has yet to suit up for the Virginia Cavaliers, Hauser is expected to take on an enormous offensive role with the Hoos this season. In his last season played at Marquette, he averaged 14.9 points and 7.2 rebounds in 32 minutes a game. Not to mention he shot 40.2 percent from beyond the arc.
Hauser is joined by fellow ACC players Jalen Johnson and Wendell Moore from Duke, but Hauser will face stiff test from all the Small Forwards featured on the watch list.
Only given out since 2015, Villanova features three of the six winners in Saddiq Bey (2020), Mikal Bridges (2018), and Josh Hart (2017).
Should Hauser win, he would become the first ACC player to win the award.
