ACC Tournament Betting Preview: Round 2

It’s day two of the ACC Tournament and I’m already chasing an 0-2 record. We’re to the point where you may want to blindly do the opposite of these picks.

Miami-Florida Hurricanes vs. Clemson Tigers
KP: Clemson -3, O/U 133
Vegas: Clemson -3.5, O/U 131.5

The Hurricanes won only two ACC games outside of South Florida all season. Their performance was so distinct home vs. road that I had a flow chart to make betting decisions for the ‘Canes. It just happens to be that one of those Away wins was against Clemson. That being said, the Tigers were a different team on New Year’s Eve when that game was played. While the ACC was basically a two tiered league this season (good and not good), Clemson is the better team and should get the W here.

Pick: Clemson -3.5

Pittsburgh Panthers vs. North Carolina State Wolfpack
KP: NC State -4, O/U 138
Vegas: NC State -5 , O/U 138

NC State is in a must win here. I have them out of the bracket in my latest bracketology and a loss to Pitt would certainly spell their doom. Normally I would bet on NC State doing the opposite of what they need to do, but I’m just not impressed with Pitt. So given, I’m not confident NC State will do what it needs to do and Pitt isn’t very good, I like the number on the total. NC State can score as can Pitt. The two put up 150 in Raleigh a week and a half ago so the 138 looks like a good number

Boston College Eagles vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
KP: Notre Dame -8, O/U 142
Vegas: Notre Dame -9, O/U 140.5

I finally got a Boston College game right as the Seminoles came through for me. Now they play in ACC Tournament where shockingly, they got a Bye. Notre Dame has to win the tournament, so I expect them to come out to play. But nine points is a lot for a team who isn’t very good. It’s especially a lot for a Notre Dame team whose largest win away from South Bend was by four.

Pick: Boston College +9

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Syracuse Orange
KP: Syracuse -1, O/U 151
Vegas: North Carolina -3, O/U 148

Well that was a terrible pick. North Carolina ran rough shod over the Hokies setting up a match up with Syracuse who is coached by Jim Boeheim. Jim Boeheim famously LOVES when the ACC Tournament is in Greensboro so I’d expect a very unwelcoming environment. Add to it, an ACC Tournament in Greensboro is a de-facto home game for the Heels and North Carolina obliterated the Orange two weeks ago in the Carrier Dome. BUT...I still think Syracuse is better. So, instead of going against all logic, I’ll look at the total hoping these two teams run up and down the court and just rack up the points.
