Virginia Football’s Anthony Poindexter Elected to College Football Hall of Fame

Poindexter becomes the fifth UVa player elected to the CFB Hall of Fame

Anthony Poindexter

The National Football Federation announced on Wednesday the 2020 College Football Hall of Fame Class on ESPN2.

Among the 17 players and two coaches elected to the Hall of Fame was the Virginia Cavaliers’ own legend, Anthony Poindexter!

Poindexter was one of the greatest defensive backs to play for the Cavaliers, wearing the orange and blue from 1995 to 1998. He was a two time First Team All American, the only one in UVa history, and a consensus All-American his senior season. He was also a three-time First Team All-ACC selection and was named the 1998 ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

After being selected in the 7th round of the 1999 NFL Draft, Poindexter would spend three seasons in the NFL playing for the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.

Since retiring, Poindexter has been a coach at UVa and is currently the co-defensive coordinator for the Purdue Boilermakers.

Poindexter is the fifth UVa player to be inducted and joins other UVa legends Bill Dudley, Tom Scott, Joe Palumbo, and Jim Dombrowski.
