ACC Tournament Betting Preview: Quarterfinals

If...the games get played, we’ve got your picks

NCAA Basketball: Notre Dame at Virginia Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

After a 1-5 start to tourney, here’s to a 4-0 day to get it back to level.

COIVD-19 vs. ACC Tournament
KP: OFF THE BOARD
Vegas: ACC Tournament -135, COVID-19 +115

At this point, it looks like Clemson vs. Florida State game will tip as scheduled, but the rest of the day is anybody’s guess. Given how quickly things escalated Wednesday evening, the smart bet would be to take the plus money and bet on these games not being played (Note: there is no actual line on this)

Pick: COVID-19 +115

Clemson Tigers vs. Florida State Seminoles
KP: Florida State -6, O/U 132
Vegas: Florida State -7, O/U 133

In the rubber match between these teams, Florida State looks to make their case as a dark-horse number one seed while Clemson will look to notch another top win. The game in Tallahassee was a blow out while the game at Clemson favored the Tigers by a point. Florida State will be rested but seven points is a lot for team coming out of the gates. Clemson played well on Wednesday and them being loose will let them keep it close.

Pick: Clemson +7

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. Duke Blue Devils
KP: Duke -8, O/U 152
Vegas: Duke -8, O/U 152.5

I hate to break it to NC State fans, but a win over Pittsburgh doesn’t make a team on the outside looking in all of a sudden included in the NCAA Tournament. They’ll need a win over Duke to rest easy come Selection Sunday and I don’t think they get it here. In a packed Greensboro Coliseum, I like for the Wolfpack to feed off the NC State friendly crowd (combination of local NC State fans and all the non-Blue Devil fans that just hate Duke), but given the lack of folk fans in attendance, just give me the better team. That’s Duke. Blue Devils roll

Pick: Duke -8

Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Virginia Cavaliers
KP: Virginia -1, O/U 115
Vegas: Virginia -3, O/U 116

These two teams didn’t even crack the century mark back in early February despite the game going to overtime. I’m not sure a game played in an empty gym will give the teams enough fuel to score many more than that this time either. Notre Dame doens’t have a quick tempo, but there is a stark difference between their offensive and defensive numbers where they rank 99th and 277th fastest respectively. I can guarantee you, their pace on offense will be closer to 277th than 99th on offense when they face off with the Hoos.

Pick: Under 116

Syracuse Orange vs. Louisville Cardinals
KP: Louisville -5, O/U 145
Vegas: Louisville -5.5, O/U 143.5

I love the Cardinals here. Syracuse has been a team I’ve picked on all year and their blow out win over the Tar Heels hasn’t all of a sudden made me like the Orange. Louisville meanwhile has the pieces to effectively beat the 2-3 zone. Jordan Nwora can play in the middle and while the Cardinals don’t shoot the three a lot, they do shoot it effectively. They won their earlier match up by 24 three weeks ago and I don’t expect a tougher test from Syracuse this time.

Pick: Louisville -5.5

Season Total: ATS (28-31-1), O/U (10-15), Total (38-46-1)
