The Class of 2020 was supposed to walk the Lawn for graduation festivities tomorrow, May 16. Instead, students are scattered around the globe as everyone deals with closures and cancellations as a result of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Tomorrow, the University will host an online ceremony at 1pm, and are hoping for an in-person commencement October 9-11, 2020. While not ideal, it will at least allow those students to walk the Lawn for Final Exercises.
In order to honor the athletes whose careers came to a close this year, Athletics Director Carla Williams read a letter to the Class of 2020. It’s a nice tribute to a group of students that left it all on the field/court and continued to fill the trophy cases over their time at Virginia.
The Class of 2020 won four team titles (three NCAA and one ITA Indoor) and 14 ACC titles. Student-athletes were named All-Americans, made All-ACC teams, and earned academic awards. They broke THE STREAK, made Final Fours, and won individual NCAA titles. All in all, it’s a well done video, and you should take five minutes to give it a watch!
