The UVA football team received great news this evening with the public announcement of graduate transfer Shane Simpson. The all-purpose back was a big time contributor at Towson, winning multiple FCS All-American and All-CAA honors. He adds immediate talent to the running back depth chart for the Hoos and should definitely factor into the kick return games as well.

Simpson missed the 2019 due to a knee injury and his year in Charlottesville will be his sixth and final year of eligibility. In 2018 he racked up 711 rushing yards, 356 receiving yards, 887 kick return yards and 104 punt return yards for the Tigers, earning him FCS All-American recognition.
Coach Atuaia shared his enthusiasm for the addition to the squad on twitter as well:

With Wayne Taulapapa returning for his junior year, Mike Hollins for his sophomore year, and incoming transfer Ronnie Walker already on the team (though Walker’s eligibility status to play this season is still undetermined), there will be plenty of talented competition for touches in the Wahoos’ backfield.
