Just two weeks ago the Virginia Cavaliers lost their home and season opener against VMI after the SOCON scrapped their college football season, but allowed their teams to play out of conference games if they wanted. Though it is not clear what really happened since the game could have been played, UVA announced they would look to find a replacement team.
Unfortunately, that team has not materialized yet and it looked like UVA would going to start the season in Blacksburg against the Virginia Tech Hokies as the reigning Commonwealth Cup winners.
Well, with the recent outbreak of COVID-19 on the NC State Wolfpack campus and in their athletic program, VT is going to start their season in the same game.

The Hokies will now start their season on September 19th against UVA and then play NC State the following weekend.
Reports are that UVA is still looking to find a replacement team for VMI, but since VT is now not going to play a game that first weekend as well, Bronco might pass on having the out of conference game that weekend to prevent VT from having any film on the new offense Virginia is going to be running without Bryce Perkins.
As it stands, UVA has open dates on September 26th (between VT and Clemson) and November 21st (between Duke and FSU) so there are options still available to fill in an out of conference opponent for this season.
