The world is moving full steam ahead as though we’re going to have some form of a college football season this year. I mean, maybe by some miracle, everything will fall into place and the NCAA with their foresight and infinite wisdom will have found a way to proceed while prioritizing the health of the student athletes! Or maybe we’ll see a game or two before it all comes crumbling down.
But I digress. That’s not the headline you clicked on today. The Amway Coaches Poll was released today to give us our first preseason look at college football’s Top 25. While the Virginia Cavaliers didn’t crack the initial rankings, the Hoos did pull in 13 points, which would have ranked them as No. 37 overall, sandwiched between military academies Navy and Air Force.
Clemson once again checks in as this year’s team to beat, followed by Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, and reigning national champions LSU to round out the top five.
The ACC just released this year’s schedule today, and the Hoos will face three Top 25 teams in Clemson, No. 19 North Carolina, and No. 24 Virginia Tech. Among Virginia’s opponents also receiving votes are Louisville, Miami, and Duke.
Georgia and Pitt (RV) were previously on the Hoos’ schedule but did not make it onto the revised version. UCONN was also on the schedule, but they elected to cancel their 2020 football season.
Here’s the full Top 25. The still-reigning Coastal Division Champions will allegedly kick off the season on September 11 against VMI in Charlottesville.
