The Virginia Cavaliers and Virginia Tech Hokies are one step closer to the season starting as the ACC announced game times and channels for the first two weeks of the 2020 season. The Hoos and Hokies will square off on ABC on September 19 in Blacksburg to open the season, and the game will kick off at either 3:30 or 7:30pm. The decision about the game time will be announced after the games played September 12.

Both teams were supposed to have an actual opener before the big rivalry game, but lost them due to different circumstances around the coronavirus pandemic. VMI, who were supposed to play Virginia on Friday, September 11, canceled their season. VT’s opponent NC State had to postpone due to a COVID-19 cluster.
This is just the second time that the Hoos and Hokies will meet to open the season, with the only other matchup happening in 1970.
Only once has #UVa vs. #VT been the season-opener for both teams. That was 1970, a 7-0 Cavaliers' victory in Blacksburg. Jim Lacey scored the lone TD, on a 3-yard run in fourth quarter. #Hokies
