The hits keep coming for the Virginia Cavaliers this offseason. Last week, guard Casey Morsell announced his intention to transfer, and this morning it has come to light that rising sophomore guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim has entered the transfer portal.
Virginia freshman Jabri Abdur-Rahim will transfer, the portal told me.— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) March 29, 2021
A highly recruited 4*, ranked No. 38 nationally in the class of 2020, Abdur-Rahim entered UVA as the second highest rated recruit to enroll in Charlottesville under Tony Bennett (behind Mamadi Diakite).
He was sparingly used throughout the season as many thought this was being used as a pseudo-redshirt year after he was coming off an injury he suffered his senior year of high school. He amassed just 32 minutes on the season, and just nine of those came during ACC play. Unfortunately, he never saw the court after the Florida State loss, and many of those minutes came in blowouts.
Most hoped to see him take a humongous step forward next year and be the offensive leader the team was going to need with the departures of Jay Huff and Sam Hauser. Unfortunately, that is not to be.
While he has not announced anything personally on social media, it is possible he comes back to UVA after exploring his transfer portal options.
With the departure of Morsell and Abdur-Rahim, the Cavaliers are going to be in need of offensive threats next year and will have ample scholarship space to use. Below is a breakdown of what the scholarship usage looks like moving forward.
