It will be the fourth time the teams have met with Iowa holding a 2-1 advantage over Virginia. In their last matchup in November, 2016 Virginia won 74-41 in the semifinals of the Emerald Coast Classic. Jarred Reuter paced the Cavaliers that day with 14 points.
Iowa was 22-9 last season and earned a two-seed in the NCAA Tournament. They were eliminated in the Round of 32 by a streaking Oregon Ducks squad. The 2021-2022 Hawkeyes will feature plenty of new faces. They’ll lose consensus National Player of the Year Luke Garza, plus all indications are Joe Wieskamp will remain in the NBA Draft. CJ Frederick has transferred to Kentucky which leaves Jordan Bohannon and Connor McCaffery as the only players coming back to play at least 56% of the team’s minutes. Bohannon will be the leading returner in the box score after averaging 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists a season ago.
You can add Iowa to the list of 2021-2022 opponents that as of now also includes Houston and Radford. Stay with Streaking the Lawn and we’ll bring you schedule updates as they’re announced.
