The rain began falling right around the scheduled start of Monday’s Columbia Regional Final and by 8:45 PM local officials determined there was no end to the rain in sight. So, the two teams will have an early wake up call and face off at 9 AM on Tuesday.
Tonight’s game against ODU has been postponed. We’ll try again tomorrow at 9 a.m. #GoHoos— Virginia Baseball (@UVABaseball) June 8, 2021
The news is great for a Virginia pitching staff that could use the extra rest. The Hoos are running out of arms and given the extra day could get back Andrew Abbott, possibly Mike Vasil, and others if needed. ODU still figures to counter with Hunter Gregory.
As of now, forecasts are calling for rain in the morning, but starting early will give them every chance to get the game played. Should they not be able to complete the game, UVA would advance based on the following scenarios
The winner will face Dallas Baptist in next week’s NCAA Super Regional. The location for that series is TBD, however the NCAA has announced that Super Regional sites will be selected from the 16 sites that hosted regionals. That could send the Columbia Regional winner to a de facto road game in Fort Worth or they could stay put in Columbia. The committee could get a little wild and send the teams to Greenville, North Carolina, the home of the East Carolina Pirates.
