Benny Montgomery, an Outfielder from Red Land High School in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania committed to play baseball next season at Virginia was drafted in the first round of Sunday’s 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. He was selected 8th overall by the Colorado Rockies.

The slotted signing bonus value for the 8th pick is $5.177M and all indications are Montgomery will sign. Last year, the Cavaliers lost commit Nick Bitsko to professional baseball after the right handed pitcher was selected No. 24 overall by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Montgomery officially signed with the Cavaliers in November after originally committing to play for the Hoos in his freshman year.

The 6-4 200 lb outfielder was named this season’s Pennslyvania Gatorade Player of the Year making it the second year in a row the player given that honor has committed to Virginia and been drafted in the First Round of the MLB Draft

Stay tuned as we bring you updates from the remainder of Sunday’s first round and check back Monday as the draft continues with rounds 2-10 beginning at 1 PM. Andrew Abbott figures to be the next Cavalier taken as we’ll keep you updated on the Wahoo draftees as the draft rolls along.
