The Atlantic Coast Conference is hosting the 2021 ACC Football Kickoff next week as coaches and players from around the league descend upon the Westin in Charlotte. The event runs July 21-22, and — for the first time ever — each ACC school will send three student athletes (instead of two) with the head coach.
Brennan Armstrong, Joey Blount, and Keytaon Thompson will join Bronco Mendenhall in Charlotte, where they will meet with members of the media, record video promos for use throughout the season, and more. The event will be broadcast on the ACC Network.
Armstrong, the starting QB for Virginia, is looking to build off of an impressive first season as a starter for the Cavaliers. He rushed for 552 yards (61.33 per game) with five touchdowns on the ground in nine games played. In the air, Armstrong threw for 2,117 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
Blount, a safety for the Cavaliers, only played in five games for Virginia last season thanks to some lingering injuries. The senior defender was a finalist for the Campbell Trophy in 2020, and he had one interception, two pass breakups, and five QB hurries last season. He’s one of the leaders on the team, and not just defensively.
Thompson, who is listed as QB/WR, was a revelation for the Hoos offensively in 2020’s shortened season. In nine games played, Thompson had 234 yards and three touchdowns rushing and 98 yards and three touchdowns receiving.
