As we get closer to the start of the 2021-22 football season, the major awards are starting to announce their watch lists for the season. Virginia quarterback Brennan Armstrong was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List on Monday, July 19. The Maxwell Award is given to the college player of the year and is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the country.
Armstrong is one of 80 total and one of 13 ACC players named to the preseason watch list. Boston College and Clemson each had two players on the list and eight of the 13 ACC players named are quarterbacks for their respective squads.
Last season, Armstrong finished 9th in the conference in passing yards per game (235.2) and fifth in passing touchdowns with 18. He also added 61.3 yards per game with his legs and five rushing touchdowns last season, good for 15th and 17th in the ACC, respectively.

You’ll get to see Armstrong and the Cavaliers in action in just a few weeks as the Virginia football season gets underway on September 4 against William and Mary. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm, and the game will be televised on Regional Sports Networks.
