With Isaac McKneely, Isaac Traudt, and Leon Bond all committed as a part of the Virginia Cavaliers’ 2022 class, Tony Bennett and his staff are looking for one more piece to fill out the puzzle in Freeport, New York native Ryan Dunn.

Dunn, a 6’6” big guard who has great offensive potential, has made his college decision and will be announcing it this Saturday.

Dunn will be announcing exactly one week after visiting UVA for the first time for his final visit. Following his trip, we caught up with Tony Bennett’s top remaining priority for the current high school senior class.

To start, Dunn emphasized that “it was a really good visit,” as he enjoyed “just going down there, being toured around the campus — it’s a nice campus.”

In his weekend in Charlottesville Dunn got the opportunity to “see the facilities, meet some of the teammates, talk to a lot of the coaching staff, and to go to the football game [against Illinois on Saturday].” All in all, he says, “it was good, fun to go down there.”

He notes that “everyone is unified at UVA,” and that “a lot of people know each other, which is cool. They’re all together as a campus.”

From the standpoint of his recruitment, visiting Virginia was significant for Dunn as he was able to get “some questions that I had [answered]. Some things figured out about UVA which is why I wanted to go down there — just to see what they’re all about and see what their culture is about.” He points out that “hanging around with Coach Bennett, talking with him, talking with the staff and some of my teammates answered some of the questions I had.”

As for his thoughts on Coach Bennett, Dunn emphasizes that he “seems like a really great guy [who] speaks from the heart. He tells you what you need to hear,” and “doesn’t sugar coat anything. He tries to get to know you as a person more than as an athlete.”

In terms of the role Bennett sees Dunn potentially playing at UVA, Dunn says that “he’s compared me to De’Andre Hunter, Malcolm Brogdon, a little bit of Justin Anderson, a little bit of Trey Murphy,” as Bennett envisions the New Yorker playing like “a lot of his big guards that have really long wingspans and can do it all.”

A Dunn commitment on Saturday would propel an already stacked 2022 class to a near unprecedented success for Tony Bennett and co. And considering the pattern of this recruitment that seems like a very realistic possibility.
