Jeff Jones 6'6" 195lbs Forward Freshman
Jeff Jones is back! No, that Jeff Jones has no remaining eligibility and is now coaching at Old Dominion University. His son, however, has plenty of eligibility left and joins the program in which his dad once played and coached. Jones was one of two walk-ons to make the team this year.
Jeff Jones comes to UVA from local St. Anne's-Bellefield School where he was a three-time letter winner. Jones averaged 13.6 pts 9.5 rebs and 3.1 assists per game for STAB and was named first-team All Virginia Prep in both his Junior and Senior seasons. A leader in high school, he was named a team captain for three seasons and also earned awards on the grid-iron (can we ask him to walk-on to the football team too?).
Jones adds leadership and rebounding to the UVA program. As the son of former UVA point guard and head coach Jeff Jones who went on to coach at American and now at ODU, Jones grew up around the game, so his fit in Bennett's "fundamentals first scheme" should be perfect. Look for Jeff to take some time to adjust to the speed of Division 1 basketball while he adds bulk to his frame. At 6'6", 195 lbs Jones has the potential to fill out into a stretch four or large three. He has been described as having a smooth jumper, which at that size will help him make an impact.
He can become the third player with the name "Jeff Jones" to contribute to the UVA basketball program. Joining his father and 2010 graduate Jeff Jones.
