NCAA Tournament Bracket: Virginia #1 seed in East Regional

Time to go on a 6-game winning streak

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

After winning the ACC regular season with a 16-2 record and then taking home an ACC Championship by beating Duke earlier in the day, the Virginia Cavaliers are a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.  (Man, did it feel good to type that sentence).

The Selection Show left us in suspense for a while, but after a wild Championship Week, Virginia was the pick to join Florida, Arizona, and Wichita State as this year's top seeds.

The Hoos will take on Coastal Carolina on Friday in Raleigh in the round of 64; with a win, they'll play the winner of #8 Memphis vs. #9 George Washington.  #2 Villanova, #3 Iowa State, and #4 Michigan State will join UVA in the region, and our friends at UNC also made the East Region as the #6 seed. and the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 will be played at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Outside of Virginia's region there was plenty of other intrigue in this year's bracket.

The biggest surprise has to be NC State making the field. The Wolfpack are in just 2 of BracketMatrix's 97 brackets, and definitely didn't look to be ahead of Florida State in the bubble race.  Regardless, it's good to see a 6th ACC team make the field, as the conference looked to have several just below the cut.

On the other hand, it's puzzling to see SMU outside the field - their lack of wins away from home may have been the factor that kept them out.

We'll have plenty of analysis to come on Virginia's road through the March Madness field.  For now, a big WAHOOWA

Here's the team, at a bar in Danville, VA, hearing their name called. Awesome:
