UVA Basketball to play at JMU...and what we know so far

Is it basketball season yet?

Bruce Bennett

UVA basketball will play in Harrisonburg against the JMU Dukes on Friday, November 14th, in what will likely be the team's season opener, as reported by Damon Dillman:

Last season, the Hoos started their season with a game against JMU in Charlottesville; it seemed that would be a one-off "guarantee game," but the Hoos are making an interesting trip out west to begin this year.

Tony Bennett has been extraordinarily willing to play away from JPJ against in-state and local teams.  The 2012 season began at George Mason, part of a home-and-home, and the Hoos have also scheduled matchups at VCU (this year), GW (next year), and that neutral site disaster against ODU in 2012 as well.

With that announcement, we know about 8 of Virginia's out-of-conference games.  The Hoos played 13 last season, so should look to add 5 more.

Here's the list of what we know:

Day Date Opponent Time TV 2014 Ken Pom Rank
Fri. Nov. 14 @ JMU 267
Sun Nov. 16 Norfolk State 253
Fri. Nov. 21 George Washington 47
Fri. Nov. 28 vs. La Salle (BCC) 9:30 PM NBC Sports 105
Sat. Nov. 29 vs. Rutgers/Vanderbilt (BCC) NBC Sports 166/112
Wed. Dec. 3 @ Maryland 9:15 PM ESPN2 40
Sat. Dec. 6 @ VCU 17
Sun. Dec. 21 Harvard 32

The team will most likely add in a game between VCU and Harvard (though I doubt more than one, since that's the exam break), and two more between the Harvard game and the start of the ACC schedule.  Per Blogging the Bracket, Tennessee State will visit at some point before the Barclay's Classic (probably before the GW game?). Then there will be one more to squeeze in somewhere.

We also know who UVA's ACC opponents will be, though we're only aware of a few dates and times, the 3 Big Monday games.

The full schedule should be announced any day now. Last season, it came out on August 22nd.
