We Virginia fans had the luxury of sitting back and watching the college football world slowly succumb to Mississippi State, the news kings of the game, as they now sit in the No. 1 spot in both the AP and Coaches Polls. The rest of the top five is rounded out by Florida State, Ole Miss, Baylor and Notre Dame in both polls.
I'm a little surprised Notre Dame didn't drop any after a weak performance against the Tar Heels this past weekend. But scrolling down to the more pertinent portions of the poll...the bottom... Georgia Tech drops out after losing to Duke this past weekend, as does UCLA. Duke is on the fringe of the polls, but should simmer down after Virginia beats them next week.
Despite being THIS close (fingers pinched together, very closely) to defeating Clemson in Death Valley, voters lose confidence in Louisville, as they're no longer picking up votes in the Coaches Poll and is down to just seven (from 36) in the AP.
Virginia still has just the one AP vote and no Coaches votes. Here's the full list:
