Virginia is sitting atop the ACC Coastal Division right now, tied with Georgia Tech at 2-0 in conference games. That would be a pretty great place to end the season (especially if the 'Hoos can snag a win in Atlanta to hold the tie-breaker). But there are a lot of games between now and then (26 of them, in fact). And not all schedules are created equal.
So let's take a look at the remaining ACC slate for the Coastal Teams:
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (2-0)
Duke
North Carolina
Pittsburgh
Virginia
N.C.S.U.
Clemson
Virginia Cavaliers (2-0)

In general, the slates are similar. The crossover games (italicized above) make a difference, though. For instance, Virginia still has Florida State out of the Atlantic, having already taken down Louisville. On the flip side, Duke has Syracuse and Wake Forest out of the Atlantic, two of the worst teams in the conference.
If we compare these schedules with Streaking the Lawn's own Power Rankings from this week, things start to look a little bleak for the Cavaliers.
Virginia has the toughest remaining schedule of all Coastal teams, averaging an opponent ranked 6.17. Duke has the easiest, averaging 8.71.
A note on those numbers: Since most teams have between 5 and 7 conference games left, and since the Coastal teams are fairly well distributed amongst our Power Rankings, the teams' average opponent will tend to be pretty close to the overall average (7.5). But you can tell relative to that 7.5 number how hard or easy a schedule is.
Here's the total list:
Virginia: 6.17
Miami: 6.20
North Carolina: 7.00
Georgia Tech: 7.50
Pittsburgh: 8.17
Virginia Tech: 8.67
Duke: 8.71
On the bright side, the average rank of our two opponents so far is a 7.0 and those were both wins. So we've already been playing on the harder side of the slate.
I'll try to keep these numbers updated regularly - though I'll likely skip next week since there's only one single Coastal game this weekend.
Go Hoos!
