Both the Virginia Cavaliers and the Virginia Tech Hokies have each lost four of their past five games. That's not good for either program, and it's certainly not good for the commonwealth.
But something interesting happened on Saturday.
Virginia, who at times looked like they would be losing out the remainder of the season, managed to put together a pretty solid game overall on Saturday to upset Miami, 30-13.
Meanwhile, Virginia Tech made history in its game against Wake Forest by being the first ACC game to finish 0-0 in regulation and head into overtime. The Hokies lost, 6-3 in double overtime, giving Wake Forest their first conference win of the season.
So, with both programs sitting at 5-6 on the season, only one team will advance to a bowl game as the two face off on Friday night after Thanksgiving to claim the Commonwealth Cup.
The Vegas line opened at Virginia Tech -1, but within minutes, the line moved to an even pick'em.
The game will be televised on ESPN on Friday night at 8:00 p.m. out of Blacksburg.
What do you think, Wahoo fans? Is this the year that Virginia can finally start a new streak in the rivalry going the other way?
