Preseason’s over, Hoo fans, time to get down to business! The business today is the ACC opener in Durham against the lovable Duke Blue Devils – who are lovable only in the sense that they are the last ACC team to have lost to Virginia. Duke looked like they had returned to their historical status as an FBS doormat up until last week when the Devils shocked a suddenly struggling Notre Dame. Duke still has a sense of urgency, however, because their schedule is the very definition of backloaded. A loss to either the Hoos or Army next week will make getting bowl eligible a mighty high hill to climb, especially if the injury bug keeps kicking them in the teeth like it has recently.

For Virginia, after three weeks of trying to rebound from losses, the coaching staff gets to build off a win. The Central Michigan game was not only a victory over a previously unbeaten team, but it was a major confidence builder. The Hoos took a massive gut punch in watching a 28 point lead evaporate, but responded in the fourth quarter to slam the door on the Chippewas. Now the coaching staff takes aim at the infamous 17-game road losing streak that presently plagues the Virginia program. After the way the season started, snapping that streak and taking a two-game run into the off week would have the Hoo faithful positively giddy.
