Week 7 ACC Football Power Rankings

At what point do we just push Clemson out of the conference to get some variety?

We’ve reached Week 7 and Clemson is still at the top. It’s gone past the annoying stage.

Here’s how the Streaking the Lawn’s staff thinks the ACC stacks up.

1. Clemson Tigers (6-0, 3-0). Last week: 1
Last game: win 63-3 at Wake Forest. This week: BYE

Poor Deacons couldn’t tackle anyone wearing a Clemson jersey. Tigers get a bye week before taking on what will likely be their last test before playing Miami (probably?) in the ACC Championship Game. At BC in November could be a stumbling block as well, but probably not.

2. Miami-Florida Hurricanes (5-1, 2-0). Last week: 2
Last game: win 28-27 vs. FSU. This week: at UVa.

The Hurricanes had to have a big second half comeback to knock off one of the worst FSU teams in history. Yes, it was a rivalry game, so maybe the Noles were playing above their heads for a half. Fact of the matter is a comeback was needed and the Canes have a bye next week. LOOK AHEAD WEEK!

3. N.C. State Wolfpack (5-0, 2-0). Last week: 3
Last game: win 28-23 vs. BC. This week: BYE

Bye week to get ready for the Tigers next week. ACC Atlantic de facto Championship Game. Let’s chalk up their lack of drubbing BC as they were looking forward to that bye week (and coming down off the high of beating UVa).

4 (tie). Boston College Eagles (4-2, 1-1). Last week: 6
Last game: loss 28-23 at NC State. This week: vs. Louisville

Gotta respect the battle the Eagles put up without AJ Dillon. With FSU, Louisville, and Syracuse still on the schedule a bowl game likely isn’t a concern, but if Dillon is out a lot longer, they could stumble and six wins could be in jeopardy.

4 (tie). Virginia Tech Hokies (3-2, 2-0). Last week: 5
Last game: loss 45-23 vs. Notre Dame. This week: at UNC

BOY HOW ABOUT THAT SECOND HALF, amirite? Personally, I went to bed thinking the Hokies might give the Irish a scare. BOY WAS I WRONG.

6. Duke Blue Devils (4-1, 0-1). Last week: 7
Last game: BYE. This week: at GT

I think we might have given the Blue Devils a little too much credit for their early season wins against Northwestern and Baylor. Yes, they are Power 5 wins on the road, but after the egg they laid against VT two weeks ago, I am not sure Duke is that great.

7. Syracuse Orange (4-2, 1-2). Last week: 4
Last game: loss 44-37 at Pitt. This week: BYE

Nobody in the conference needs a bye more than Cuse right now. After putting the fear of God into Clemson two weeks ago they stumbled against.....Pitt? Yeesh. They lose to UNC next week and I take back every nice thing I have ever said about Syracuse, Dino Babers, and Otto the Orange.

8. Virginia Cavaliers (3-2, 1-1). Last week: 8
Last game: BYE. This week: vs. Miami

The strive for 6 continues this week against Miami. I think we all deserve an upset in our lives after all we’ve been through in 2018.

9. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-3, 1-2). Last week 11
Last game: win 66-31 at Louisville. This week: at Duke

Just when you think Paul Johnson is dead because the Jackets roll off three straight Ls, the Yellow Jackets roar back to life with two straight dubs scoring over 63 in each! Yea, they were against Bowling Green and Louisville, but Paul Johnson never dies.

10. Florida State Seminoles (3-3, 1-3). Last week: 10
Last game: loss 28-27 at Miami. This week: BYE

Wake, Clemson, NC State, Notre Dame, BC, and Florida. Tell me which of those three game FSU is going to win to get to a bowl. I am not seeing it either.

11. Pittsburgh Panthers (3-3, 2-1). Last week: 12
Last game: win 44-37 vs. Syracuse. This week: at Notre Dame.

Did we underestimate Pitt? They lost to UNC and got blowed out by UCF, so I doubt it. Bowl game isn’t looking good for the Panthers.

12. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (3-3, 0-2). Last week: 9
Last game: loss 63-3 vs. Clemson. This week: BYE

Wake might not be very good. They’ve got three wins against subpar opponents and still have Pitt, Cuse, Louisville, and FSU still on the schedule. That bowl could still be possible!

13. Louisville Cardinals (2-4, 0-3). Last week: 13
Last game: loss 66-31 vs. GT. This week: at BC.

I’d feel bad for Louisville fans for the crap they’ve had to go through for the last year and now they’re saddled with Bobby Petrino, but nah. I hope Petrino runs that program further into the ground.

14. North Carolina Tar Heels (1-3, 1-1). Last week: 14
Last game: BYE. This week: vs. VT

Nah, nope.
