ACC Weekend Betting Preview: Week 12

No Virginia, but we still have picks

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Virginia Tech Lee Luther Jr.-USA TODAY Sports

I learned a very valuable lesson last week. When you’re hoping for a certain outcome to help your team’s chances of winning the Coastal Division, don’t bet on that outcome. I went against both Miami and VaTech only to have both my heart and wallet broken. Alas, even after a 2-4 week, 10 games over .500 is still in the black.

Alabama State @ Florida State Seminoles
Florida State -41; Over/Under 53

Among the FCS ranks, Alabama State is no slouch. They barely lost to UAB to open the season and they were able to score 9 on Auburn last year when they visited the Tigers. With a 41 point spread, 10-12 is all they’ll need to get to help the Noles go over the number. I think they can do that and the Seminoles should do their part.

Pick: Over 53

Virginia Tech Hokies @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Georgia Tech +6.5; Over/Under 50.5

Was a five point loss on the road enough to convince us that Georgia Tech is going to compete with Virginia Tech? I don’t think so. You can’t convince me that the Yellow Jackets did enough against the Hoos that they should go from a 16-point underdog last week to a 6.5-point underdog this week. Virginia and Virginia Tech aren’t that different of teams. Fade Georgia Tech season continues.

Pick: VaTech -6.5

Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ Clemson Tigers
Clemson -34; Over/Under 59.5

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Clemson has seemed to hit its stride and even though some could argue Wake Forest is the second best team in the ACC (despite the loss in Blacksburg) the Tigers will show just how vast the divide is between them and the rest of the league.

Pick: Clemson -34

Syracuse Orange @ Duke Blue Devils
Duke -10.5; Over/Under 51

After scoring 40 points or more in four of their first five games, Duke hasn’t exceeded 17 in their last three. Syracuse only seems to score on weak offenses (or in catch up mode against Boston College). Duke won’t look to run up and down the field relying on their defense instead, so this game will have a hard time getting to the implied total of 31-20

Pick: Under 51

Louisville Cardinals @ N.C. State Wolfpack
N.C. State +4; Over/Under 52

The Wolfpack have played two defenses as sieve-like as the one they’ll face Saturday when they host Louisville. In those games they scored 27 and 24 points against West Virginia and Boston College respectively. Louisville on the other had has no issue scoring 27 or more six times. At home, N.C. State should be able to score in the 20s, so if Louisville can come close to this line, the total will likely go over.

Pick: Over 52
