A couple weeks ago, word on the street was that former Virginia Cavalier Darion Atkins, the ACC Defensive Player of the Year, would be signing with the New York Knicks in a deal that was all but done. Days after, the Daily Progress reported that the deal may not be done after all, and that Atkins may have options elsewhere.
Today, it became official: Atkins has signed a partially guaranteed contract with the Knicks.
The report first came out from the New York Post's Marc Berman:
#Knicks haven't announce it but Virginia PF Darion Atkins has now signed his partially guaranteed deal. Defensive specialist.

The Daily Progress's Whitey Reid confirmed as such, including this picture of Atkins signing the contract:

(His mother, Minnette Atkins, was by his side and is cropped out of that tweet.)
This doesn't necessarily mean that Atkins will be on the team next year. He will still need to prove himself at training camp for a spot on the final roster. Atkins had played with the San Antonio Spurs during summer league.
The Knicks finished last year with a 17-65 record, just one win ahead of the Minnesota Timberwolves with the worst record in the league.
