As has previously been reported, the National Champion Virginia Cavaliers will be competing in the 2019 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament presented by Citi on November 23 and 24. A total of eight teams will be participating, with games taking place at both local campuses (and Grounds) as well as the Mohegan Sun Arena in tropical Uncasville, Connecticut.
The eight participating teams are:
- Naismith Bracket: Arizona State Sun Devils, St. John’s Red Storm, Massachusetts Minutemen, Virginia Cavaliers
- Springfield Bracket: Central Connecticut Blue Devils, Columbia Lions, Rider Broncs, Vermont Catamounts
Virginia will host a couple pre-tournament games, taking on Columbia on November 16 and Vermont on November 19 at John Paul Jones Arena. The Hoos will then face UMass in the first round of the tournament on November 23 at the Mohegan Sun, with the championship and consolation games played the following day. The winners of each bracket will not face each other.
“We are looking forward to the Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena in November,” Virginia head coach Tony Bennett said. “The competitive field will provide quality competition for our team.”
UMass head coach Matt McCall also expressed excitement.
“We’re really excited about taking part in this marquee event and the opportunity to play the defending national champion Virginia Cavaliers. Our friends with the Basketball Hall of Fame have put together a great field and I know our fans will be excited to see these terrific teams play in the Mohegan Sun Arena.”
“The Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament continues to be one of the best early season events featuring outstanding programs in a tremendous destination venue for fans,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. “We’re proud to host this year’s field of teams, including the defending national champions, and their fans at beautiful Mohegan Sun.”
