We’re now just two weeks away from tipoff for the 2020-2021 college basketball season! The Virginia Cavaliers are predicted by the ACC media members to finish first in the league, receiving 97 of the 155 first-place votes.

Duke was picked to finish second with 34 votes, reigning regular-season champions Florida State was picked third with 15 votes, and North Carolina (7) and Louisville (2) each also received votes.

Virginia’s Sam Hauser, the transfer out of Marquette, was named to the Preseason All-ACC First Team, finishing second in Preseason ACC Player of the Year voting with 24 votes, behind North Carolina’s Garrison Brooks with 102 votes.

Junior guard Kihei Clark was named to the Preseason All-ACC Second Team and also received a singular vote in the Preseason ACC Player of the Year standings. (Dear voter, who are you? Inquiring minds need to know!)

Louisiana Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year Reece Beekman received three votes for the Preseason ACC Freshman of the Year honors.

It’s only the second time in school history that the Hoos have been picked to finish first in the ACC, going all the way back to 1982-1983 under Ralph Sampson for the last time.

ACC media members have only correctly picked the first place finisher twice in the last ten years, both times when they picked Carolina. Mostly this is a testament to their blindly picking Duke and ignoring the mighty Cavaliers out of Charlottesville.

Here’s the full voting results:
