Recruiting Roundup! One big weekend down, one to go.

Virginia enters the homestretch for the class of 2015.

Welcome to another edition of Recruiting Roundup! With only a week left until National Signing Day, today’s piece will serve as a State of the Union of sorts for the class of 2015.

Let’s go!

Big Weekend on Grounds:

The Virginia football program received three verbal commitments this past weekend. Eric Gallon, Naji Abdullah, and Steven Wright became the 19th, 20th and 21st members of the class of 2015. All three defenders will provide valuable depth, and will lineup at positions of need. Wright and Adullah come in as weakside defensive ends, while Gallon will play linebacker at UVa. Of the three commits, we’re the most excited about Gallon. The Sunshine State native is a good compliment to the pair of four-star ‘backers already on board, and will be a nice fit in Jon Tenuta’s system.

Virginia hosted the bulk of its 2015 recruiting class this past weekend. Several of the commits tweeted out group pictures of the new Hoos rocking UVa jerseys, and it seemed to be a successful weekend for the guys already on board.

Fox to Stanford:

New Jersey linebacker Jordan Fox was one official visitor from this past weekend that will not call Charlottesville his home in the future. Fox announced on Twitter on Tuesday that he had committed to Stanford over fellow finalist Virginia. Fox could have played a Max Valles outside linebacker/rush end role on the UVa defense, but that is not in the cards.

Official Visit Weekend Round Two:

While there will be plenty of underclassmen visitors in town this coming weekend, Virginia will also play host to several key 2015 targets. Commits Juan Thornhill and Warren Craft had basketball conflicts last Saturday, and will take their official visits to UVa this weekend.

The Hoos will also play host to three-star safety John Petrishen. Petrishen, who has been on UVa’s list for a LONG time is coming off of visits to both Pittsburgh and Penn State in the past two weeks. The Keystone State native is high on the Hoos, but Petrishen lives just minutes from the Pitt campus, and is also a primary target for the Nittany Lions as well. With the loss of David Curry to Georgia Tech, Petrishen is an even bigger need for the class of 2015. Needless to say, this weekend is very important for Virginia’s chances.

UVa will also play host to Wisconsin commit Dominic Sheppard. If you recall, Sheppard committed to former UW assistant coach Chris Beatty, who is now a member of the Cavalier coaching staff. Can Beatty work his magic and flip the three-star linebacker? We’ll know a lot more after this weekend.

News and Notes:

Colonial Forge wide receiver Gary Jennings took an official visit to West Virginia this past weekend, and will take one to UNC this week. Jennings is a top target, but as you can see, there is plenty of competition here.

Buford Ga wide receiver Steven Reese committed to Northwestern over the weekend. There was talk of Reese maybe visiting UVa this coming weekend, but obviously, that’s not happening anymore. Reese is a teammate of David Curry.

Speaking of guys that won’t visit UVa. Virginia Tech commit Houshun Gains appears to be solid with the Hokies, making a talked-about official visit to Charlottesville unnecessary.

Finally, former defensive end commit Rasool Clemons committed to Ole Miss over the weekend.

That will do it for this week’s Recruiting Roundup. Keep it right here for the latest, and Signing Day coverage beginning next week.
