Virginia Football Recruiting: Nick Johns signs with Virginia

The three-star signal-caller is a terrific fit under center for the Wahoos.

Profile: Nick Johns

High School: Gonzaga (Washington D.C.)

Height/weight: 6-3, 226

Ranking: Rivals 3*, ESPN 3*, 247 3*

Additional offers: NC State, Maryland.

The skinny:

Johns was the second offensive recruit to commit to the Cavaliers for the class of 2015 and the first skill-player. He made his decision back in May 2014, and never waivered despite ongoing interest from other FBS programs. The three-star signal-caller would have certainly earned more offers had he gone further into the recruiting process, but Johns knew exactly where he wanted to be early on.

Johns is a big quarterback with an even bigger arm. The Washington D.C. native is ranked the 19th best pocket-passing quarterback in the entire country by Rivals.com.

This past season, Johns completed 101 of 150 passes for 1,336 yards and 12 touchdowns, while helping lead Gonzaga to a Washington D.C. city title. Johns did the bulk of his work this fall without two of the team’s top receivers, making the final total even more impressive.

With Grayson Lambert and Matt Johns battling it out for the starting job, and Whitey Marshall and Corwin Cutler waiting in the wings, expect the talented rookie to redshirt this coming fall.

And to answer everybody’s question, he is not related to Matt Johns.
