The Skinny:
Bronco Mendenhall already made a great slotting decision at UVa, despite only being on the job for a little more than a month. The first-year head coach elected to recruit Florida native Deedrick Daniels as a cornerback rather than a wide receiver.
Originally on the fence as to what position he would play at the next level Mendenhall and secondary coach Nick Howell have made it clear to Daniels that they want him at corner. The two new Cavalier coaches had an excellent in-home visit with Daniels last month, and the Tampa product appears to be an ideal fit in the new aggressive defense.
As seen in the film above, Daniels played a lot of both offense and defense in high school. Daniels is an opportunistic defensive back, and can play close to the line of scrimmage when needed. Daniels has great recovery speed and never gives up on a play. The Florida native covers a lot of ground despite his sub-6-foot size, and is a solid playmaker in transition.
Daniels is eager to be a part of Mendenhall's program and has the right intangibles to be a part of this defense. Expect Daniels to redshirt in 2016 and become a fixture in the UVa secondary down the road.
